The Scenic Rim:

The Scenic Rim region is a thriving rural paradise set in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and surrounded by world heritage listed national parks. Home to a population of more than 37,780, the region covers 4248sq km and is located an hour south of Brisbane and an hour inland from the Gold Coast. Known for its breathtaking scenery, it is a popular tourist destination offering visitors plenty to see and do. From its myriad of wineries and art galleries to expansive bush walking tracks, state of the art equine facilities, growing rural communities and friendly country charm, the Scenic Rim region is a must see destination. Its main towns are, Boonah,Beaudesert, Rathdowney, Kooralbyn, Kalbar, Aratula, Canungra, Tamborine Mountain, Harrisville and Peak Crossing. The region's primary businesses are agricultural/horticultural production, the equine industry and tourism/ecotourism. The Scenic Rim region contains more than 30,000 hectares of parkland, including national parks and council controlled parks. The region also contains three dams: Lake Moogerah, Lake Maroon and Wyaralong Dam. Supported by a thriving economy, a farming industry and a vibrant arts community, the Scenic Rim has a strong community spirit and friendly locals

 

Boonah:

Boonah in the Scenic Rim Region

The picturesque Boonah and surrounds make a perfect place for a brief or extended stay to enjoy the great outdoors. The Region boasts many picnic spots, country style accommodation, camping areas and seven National Parks taking in Mount French, Mount Edwards, The Head, Mount Greville, Mount Maroon and Cunningham's and Spicers Gap.

 

Kalbar

The town of Kalbar is situated in the fertile Fassifern with magnificent views of the Scenic Rim. Kalbar has a rich German history which is reflected in many historic sites around town. Kalbar acts as a secondary commercial and service centre in the region. Kalbar offers shopping facilities, civic centre, hotel, showgrounds, school, historical churches, retirement village, parks and gardens. Attractions include heritage listed buildings of the Wiss Emporium  and Wiss House, cafes and art galleries. The annual Kalbar Show is held each year in June. The popular event began in 1926 as a calf show and has grown in size through the years. Every year the variety and number of stands also continues to increase in line with the changing face of the Scenic Rim. More recently among the exhibitors and products on display was local wine, olives and gourmet cheeses. The ever popular sideshow alley, amusement rides and food stands are also a large part of the attraction

The nearest large shopping centres and supermarkets are located in Boonah.  The major tourist attraction in Kalbar is Lake Moogerah, which is popular with camping fishing and skiing enthusiasts.

Regional Climate

The Scenic Rim Region experiences sub-tropical climatic conditions typically with warm wet summers and mild dry winters. Temperatures range between daytime averages of mid 30oC  in summer, to low 20oC  in winter. The town of Beaudesert is located 46m above sea level. The average annual rainfall is 916mm. The Boonah township is about 80m above sea level and is located latitude-28.0067 degrees south and  longitude 152.68 degrees east. Average annual rainfall for the region is 866mm, equating to an average of 89 days of rainfall.
